Emotional Healing: From the story of Joseph

First of all, emotional healing usually include emotions, mental and our spirit. ln many major problems in emotional healing, healing is a process. According to the situations and circumstances, some healing could take months, years and many years, it took a minimum of 22 years gap for Joseph to be healed, even non of his 10 brothers recognize him 22 years later.
Joseph was a great Prophet, faithful man of God, a man who fears God, with a great leadership abilities, responsible, greatly blessed and favored by God as often written in the Bible, even by men and by people in authorities because of his God, he later became the Governor of the whole country, but there was always part of him that was deeply hurt and need much healing.
Joseph brothers sold Joseph to the Midianites. Joseph was likely to have all these side effects emotionally, mentally and in his spirit – Extreme Anger, frustrations, shame, bitterness, hatred, feelings of rejection and abandonment, a desire to tell his father what has been done to him, feeling betrayed, feeling worthless, feeling oppressed, feeling unloved, depression and loneliness. At the same time he was truly a man of God.
After 22 Years:
We would say that it was 22 years of not meeting his brothers because Gen 37:2 says that Joseph was 17yrs old when he got dream, and was soon sold out by his brothers.
He was 30yrs old when he became Governor of Egypt (Gen 41:46), (therefore 30-17=13yrs).
7yrs of abundant, 2yrs after famine started he met his brothers, 5yrs more famine left. (Therefore 13+7+2=22yrs)
He was around 17yrs old when he was sold, and met his brothers at age 39, that means 22yrs of not meeting his brothers. As we read in the Bible, when Joseph met his brothers, Joseph recognize them, but they didn’t recognize him anymore, for it was quite a long time.
And for sure we can believe that Joseph would have often cried hiddenly during those 22 years of journey, being mistreated in all different ways and being away from father and brothers, and from family.
Joseph emotional reactions to His brothers: –
Even though Joseph would have often cried hiddenly during those 22 years of journey, and many healings happening emotionally, mentally and spiritually, he still got quiet a numbers of reactions to his brothers when he met them.
After seeing his brothers – His reactions for what they had done to him 22years ago.
1. He pretended to be a stranger to his brothers(Gen 42:7)
2. He spoke harshly to them when he met them (Gen 42:7)
3. He falsely accuse them –
Gen 42:9 – “You are spies! You have come to see where our land is unprotected.”
Vs 12 – “You have come to see where our land is unprotected.”
Vs 14 It is just as I told you: You are spies!
4. He put his brothers in custody (prison) for 3 days. (vs17)
5. One of them to stay in prison until they came back with one of their brother (Vs19)
6.He turned away from them and began to weep, (Vs24)
7. He put a bag of silver in each of their sacks (Vs 35)(They were frightened).
8. Deeply moved at the sight of his brother, Joseph hurried out and looked for a place to weep. He went into his private room and wept there. (Gen 43:30)
9. Falsely accused them, threaten them and said that one of them will become his slave (Gen 44)
10. Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out “Have everyone leave my presence!” (Gen 45:1)
(Crying out is part of emotional healing, one of the sign of emotionally healing, mentally healing, and healing of a man’s spirit connectively).
11. He wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh’s household heard about it. (Gen 45:2)
Two most interesting part of Joseph reactions in the healing and restoration process of Joseph’s soul (emotional healings) –
– He falsely accused his 10 brothers, and put them in custody (prison) for 3 days. (For what they did to him 22yrs ago).
– He wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh’s household heard about it. (Gen 45:2)
(“Wept so loudly” – which is part of healing, one of the sign of healing process).
