I. First of all, there are different levels of Spiritual Warfare. Below are in it’s shortest form.
1. Personal Level on Spiritual Warfare:
Romans 7:13-25 – This struggle mainly happens in an individual’s life. It’s mainly to do with personal decision/ choice between good and evil, sin and holiness. Attack in this level mainly comes in the form of temptations and who we are.
Gal 5:24 – Crucified the sinful nature, kill the selfish desire, put to death the flesh with its passions and desires.
Mark 14:38 – Pray that you will not fall into temptation.
2. Ground level Spiritual Warfare:
It refers to the outward manifestation of demonic power or activity and demon oppression.
The Controlling spirit or when being oppressed by these spirits – spirits of infirmity, deaf and dumb spirits, spirits of lust, blaspheming against God, spirit of intellect, etc.
Luke 13:11-13 – Jesus set the woman free from the spirit of infirmity.
Luke 8:26-39 – The demon inside that man is called Legion. Jesus set him free.
Mark 9:17-29 – Deaf and mute spirit (Prayer and fasting)
3. Occult level of Spiritual Warfare –
This is Warfare against the organised forces of darkness like Witchcraft, Freemasonry, Cults, Superstitions/ rituals, Satanism, Mediums/ spiritists, fortune telling, palmistry, astrology, horoscope, idolatry, etc.
Eg: Acts 16:16-19 – Paul and Silas were casting out the spirit of divination. (slave girl, spirit of divination, fortune-telling, cast out by Paul and Silas).
4. Strategic level Spiritual Warfare: (TERRITORIAL LEVEL SW.)
Principalities and Rulers – Ephesians 6:12
– This level is sometimes referred to as the “territorial – level”.
– It refers to spiritual stronghold that keeps a certain area/ city/ province/state/community/ nation or nations under control.
Ephesians 6:12 – For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities (Rulers), against the powers (Authorities), against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places . (ASV)
(IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER: WE ARE NOT FIGHTING AGAINST FLESH AND BLOOD, BUT OF THE SPIRITUAL FORCES, DEMONIC SPIRITS THAT RULE IN THE HEAVENLY PLACES)
Principalities/ Rulers – The word principalities itself means an area or state that is being ruled by a Prince. So, this demonic level hierarchy have a larger influence and dominion. It means that it has a larger region, territory, nation or nations that it influence with it’s demonic works. What’s important here is that we understand the different levels of Spiritual Warfare, it’s demonic hierarchy or demonic influence the Devil planned, how He function and make war.
Depending upon the place, the principalities that ruled over village/ town/ city/ region/ country may differ.
Controlling Geographical Areas, a nation or even nations – village/ town/ city/ country/ nation or nations.
Some few Examples:
From History – many years back, one of the Principalities that ruled all over a country, and even all over the world was Slavery.
In some areas, some villages are said to be ruled by cheating and stealing.
It was in 2006, we were in YWAM, having our outreach in South India, we went to many towns and villages, in one of a large village we went, every home seems to got some kind of sicknesses, many were having serious health problems. Sicknesses and health problems were one of a big ruler in that area. I remember that many of them received Christ as their Lord and Savior as we preached the Gospel to them, and that we prayed for the healings of many sicknesses and health problems, but don’t remember if any of them healed, but my wife told that several of them were healed as well in that village.
The Blood of Jesus Christ, The Word of God, Praise and Worship, The Name of Jesus Christ, Prayers and Intercessions, and many more are all apart of powerful Weapons for Spiritual Warfare, even anointed preaching and teachings are all apart of Powerful Warfare against the Dark forces in the Heavenly places.
(Matt 28:18) – Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me”.
(Some teachings are taken from notes of some apostle who plant churches, and good teachers, and others from different personal experiences).
His intent was that now, THE MANIFOLD WISDOM OF GOD might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places. This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ephe 3:10-11)
For THE WORD OF GOD is living and active/powerful, and SHARPER THAN ANY TWO EDGED SWORD, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Heb 4:12)
The Highest level of Spiritual Warfare is fought through the Advancement of the Kingdom.
